Middle Korean

edit

Pronunciation

edit
  • IPA(key): /*jwa/, /*wia/ (hypothetical)

Letter

edit

(ywa)

  1. A digraph of (ywo) and (ya).

Usage notes

edit
  • This digraph was never actually used. King Sejong, the inventor of the Korean alphabet, used it only as a hypothetical example to demonstrate how letters could combine to represent sequences of vowels. The hypothetical triphthong is not possible in Middle Korean and does not represent any Middle Chinese medial.
