Usage notesEdit

  • This term is often spelled in hiragana, as または.
  • Used in conjunction with moshiku wa (若しくは) to form complex lists, particularly in legal contexts. Mata wa divides subsets within the list while moshiku wa is used to conjoin more closely related items.
    • 1946, Constitution of Japan, Article 89:
      公金(こうきん)その()(おおやけ)財產(ざいさん)は、宗敎上(しゅうきょうじょう)組織(そしき)()しくは團體(だんたい)使用(しよう)便益(べんえき)()しくは維持(いじ)のため、(また)(おおやけ)支配(しはい)(ぞく)しない慈善(じぜん)敎育(きょういく)()しくは博愛(はくあい)事業(じぎょう)(たい)し、これを支出(ししゅつ)し、(また)その利用(りよう)(きょう)してはならない。
