Inherited from Old East Slavic *ꙗичьнъ (*jaičĭnŭ), from Proto-Slavic *ajьčьnъ. Cognate with Russian яи́чный (jaíčnyj). By surface analysis, ꙗйце (jajce) +‎ -ный (-nyj).
