Sino-Korean word from 丹木 (“red wood”), seemingly a Korean invention based on the tree's red color.

Possibly related to Middle Korean 다〯목〮 (tǎmwók, “Biancaea sappan”), but there is a discrepancy in tone. Compare 단〮목〮 (tánmwók), the expected Middle Korean reading of this word.
