Korean edit

Etymology edit

From (mam, mind, contraction of 마음 (ma'eum)) +‎ (-s-, genitive interfix; omitted from the spelling, but this causes the tense phonation of the following consonant) +‎ (sok, inside, the inside).

Pronunciation edit

  • (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈma̠(ː)ms͈o̞k̚]
  • Phonetic hangul: [(ː)]
    • Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
