Etymology

edit

The second element is ᄂᆞᄅᆞ (nòlò, ford), but the first element is unclear. It appears to be the realis adnominal form, with modulator present, of the verb or adjective *멑다 (meth-ta), but no such word is known in Middle Korean or any modern dialect. Alternatively, 머툰〮 (mèthún) may be a single morpheme, although it is still undecipherable.
