머툰ᄂᆞᄅᆞ
Middle Korean
editAlternative forms
edit- 麻屯津 (the hanja form, the first two characters phonogramic and the third logogramic)
Etymology
editThe second element is ᄂᆞᄅᆞ (nòlò, “ford”), but the first element is unclear. It appears to be the realis adnominal form, with modulator present, of the verb or adjective *멑다 (meth-ta), but no such word is known in Middle Korean or any modern dialect. Alternatively, 머툰〮 (mèthún) may be a single morpheme, although it is still undecipherable.
Pronunciation
editProper noun
edit머툰〮ᄂᆞᄅᆞ (Mèthúnnòlò)
- a ford across the lower Taedong River near Pyongyang
