Korean edit

Etymology edit

First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 져믈〮다〮 (Yale: cyèmúl-tá). Cognate Jeju ᄌᆞ물다 (jawmulda) may point to an earlier *ᄌᆢ믈〮다〮 (*cyòmúltá) or *ᄌᆢᄆᆞᆯ〮다〮 (*cyòmóltá).

Likely a doublet of 점글다 (jeomgeulda) from Middle Korean 졈글〮다〮 (cyèmkúltá), whence derives Jeju 정글다 (jeonggeulda), but the alternation is unclear.
