Etymology edit

From a Proto-Scythian endonym *Skuฮดa via Old Median *Skuฮดa + ๐Žผ (*-ra-, hypocoristic suffix). First element is derived from Proto-Iranian *Skuda, ultimately from *(s)kewd- (โ€œto propel, shootโ€). Cognate with Ancient Greek ฮฃฮบฯฮธฮทฯ‚ (Skรบthฤ“s).[1]
