Uncertain. Borrowed from a Calabrian term, mainly: ndrànghita, ntrànghita; also Sicilian ntràgnita~nnràgnita or ntrànghita~ntrànchita. Perhaps related to Ancient Greek ἀνδραγαθία (andragathía, valour/valor”, “prowess), or to Latin interanea (bowels”, in the transferred sense of “sharing a deep, exclusive bond).
