Probably related to Proto-Athabaskan *səmˀ (“star”).
Compare Navajo sǫʼ (“star”), Chiricahua sǫǫs (“star”). Other cognates found in Tanacross sénʼ (“star”) and Ahtna sonʼ (“star”).
In Navajo this root is attested only in the neuter imperfective stem.
