Etymology edit

Compound of 1@NearSfhead-PalmDown 1@Sfhead-PalmDown (think) and 1@TipFinger-FingerAcross-1@CenterChesthigh-FingerAcross 1@FromTipFinger-1@InsideChesthigh (opposite). The typical ASL compounding process for such signs drops the initial move of the first component.

  • This two-handed ASL sign is produced as follows:
    1. Posture the dominant hand in the “1” handshape with the tip of the index finger touching the side of the forehead, palm facing down.
    2. Hold the dominant hand still briefly.
    3. Posture the nondominant hand in the “1” handshape in the center of the space in front of the chest, finger pointing across toward the dominant side. At the same time, move the dominant hand so the tip of the index finger contacts that of the nondominant hand, finger pointing across toward the nondominant side.
    4. Hold both hands still briefly.
    5. Move both hands apart so they are several inches away from each other.
    6. Hold both hands still briefly.
