Name of a nomadic tribe from Pliny the Elder's Natural History VI, 38. Compare the reconstructed Later Han Chinese pronunciation of 奄蔡, *ʔɨamB-sɑC (Schuessler 2009). Also compared 闔蘇 (OC *ĥa̱p-sa̱ĥ) (Hulsewé 1979), another name of 奄蔡, according to Yan Shigu (Yu 1998).
