Particularly: “I assume this derives from Ancient Greek ἀπατηλή (apatēlḗ), the feminine of ἀπατηλός (apatēlós), whence the epithet apatēlus; however, the semantics are unclear. According to w:la:Acronicta (see the Synonyma in the infobox by clicking the Dilatare toggle), Jacob Hübner published this name in 1806, 1808, 1818, and 1822 (the first three being suppressed); see species:Jacob Hübner for a list of his works, caveat that I didn't find Apatele in the 1822 work linked to. Compare Apatela (James Francis Stephens, 1829, lapsus) and Apatelae (Ferdinand Ochsenheimer, 1816, unavailable), both also synonyms of Acronicta.” |
