Sindarin edit

Etymology edit

Modified from dôl in Tolkien’s earlier conceptions of the language (‘Noldorin’), itself modified from yet earlier nod, naul in early ‘Noldorin’, from still earlier nôl in ‘Gnomish’. Diegetically explained as derived from a Primitive Elvish root *dol-, from whose variant form *ndol- the Quenya nóla (knoll, round hilltop) also derives.

Noun edit

doll • 2j¸Y (plural duil)

  1. head
  2. hill or mountain with a rounded or flat top
