This is a draft for a list of taxonomic names, down to about genus level. Bacteria, especially, are very incomplete. Do note that taxonomy is not static:
- one and the same name may apply to a group that will vary considerably in size and circumscription over time and between different taxonomic systems
- a taxon may belong to different groups of a higher rank depending on the taxonomic system used.
However taxonomy is a very exact science and great care is needed to be precise. For individual species, look in the genus entry.
