editPotentially attested as buun in 1141, attested with certainty as bonne in 1206-1207. Likely derived from Proto-Germanic *bunjô- (“elevated place, height”) or Middle Dutch buun (“fencing”). Compare Bonnen, Buinen and Bunschoten.
