Etymology edit
Attested as Caranzobre[1] and Caançovre[2] in the 14th century. From a Celtic composite noun *Karantyobrix, from the deuterotheme *brixs (“hill”) and a prototheme derived from Proto-Celtic *karants (“friend”).[3]
