editFirst attested as dointhimwalde in 1369. Calque of West Frisian Dantumawâld, a compound of Old Frisian Dantuma (“a surname”) and wald (“marsh forest, swamp forest”). Fused in 1971 with Akkerwoude and Murmerwoude to form Damwoude.
