Etymology

Emden (previously Embden), in the extreme north-west of modern Germany, was an important port for the export of goods to England, including oats. However, the connection to Embden groats is not clear. (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)
