- Shaanxi's Huazhang Daily newspaper said the wasps had been attacking people in the Ankang region since 2002. Hundreds had been stung and at least 30 had died.
Local police and firemen teams are being deployed to track and destroy the pests, but no significant improvement had been made because there were no wasp experts in the region, the newspaper said.
Some people said the problem was worse this year. In the Hanbin district alone this year, five villagers have been killed by the wasps, while the number of hives has increased from one in 2002 to more than 40 this year.
