Attested as het Krakeelsche Opgaande in 1797. Derived from krakeel (“argument, conflict”). The toponym indicates that the land was contested between two parties. Compare Cabauw, Hebrecht, Kijfhoek, Kijfwaard, Kibbelgaarn, Kibbelveen, Krakeelpolder, Schellach and Strijkviertel.
