Lancashire boiler (plural Lancashire boilers)

  1. A steam boiler with two flues that contain the furnaces and extend through the boiler from one end to the other.
    • 1951 July, W. R. Watson, “An Edge Hill Beam Engine”, in Railway Magazine, page 490:
      The beam is used to drive two pumps, one supplying water from the reservoir to the condenser, and the other the feed pump supplying the Lancashire boiler, and the condenser itself.
