editFrom Vietnamese nhà bè (“hut built atop a wooden raft”). In the past, many people from Đàng Ngoài went down the boat to the Soài Rạp River, meet the reverse current, so they built rafts on the river, serving as a place for cooking and living for the whole fleet. Nowadays, "nhà bè" are only seen in the Mekong Delta but are no longer seen in HCMC.
