Etymology edit

First attested as nyeholepat in 1399 and 1408. Compound of nieuw (“new”), holt (“rising deciduous forest”) and Old Dutch pade (“swamp, marsh”). The element nieuw was added to distinguish the settlement from Oldeholtpade.
