Etymology

From Latin salicastrum, with syncope of /ĭ/ and vocalization of preconsonantal /l/ to /u̯/. For the development of /st/ to /ts/, cf. Latin castrum > Old Spanish alcaçar (modern alcázar), which also passed through Mozarabic.
