editFrom Proto-Indo-European *h₂éws-r̥-h₂ ~ *h₂us-r-és, from *h₂ews- (“dawn; to dawn”). Cognate with Sanskrit उस्रा (usrā́, “dawn, morning”), Ancient Greek αὔρᾱ (aúrā, “morning air”), and perhaps further Proto-Germanic *Austrǭ (“Easter”), and Albanian err (“darkness”).
