From Proto-Celtic *mlīnos, from Proto-Indo-European *mlih₁-nó-s, from *mleh₁y-. Cognate with Lithuanian blīnis (“tired man”), Proto-Germanic *blīþiz (“gentle, mild”), Sanskrit म्लायति (mlā́yati, “to be weary”).
