From a reduplicated present *h₁í-h₁eyǵʰ-ti from Proto-Indo-European *h₁eyǵʰ-.[1][2] Distantly related to Ancient Greek ἰχανάω (ikhanáō, to desire) and Sanskrit ईहति (īhati, to desire).
