Proto-Finnic edit

Etymology edit

Possibly borrowed from Proto-Balto-Slavic *geyd-. Compare Lithuanian giedoti and Latvian dziedāt. Alternatively a borrowing from Proto-Slavic *čiti-[1]. albeit this is less certain if the actual form is *čьtiti (which would result in a short -i- in Finnic).

Verb edit

*kiittädäk (stem *kiittä-)
