Proto-Finnic edit

Etymology edit

Akin to Proto-Samic *uksë (door). Possibly of Baltic origin; cf. Lithuanian uoksas (hole), in which case the Sami word may be early loan from Finnic. Udmurt ӧс (ös, door), Komi-Permyak ӧдзӧс (ödźös, door) and Komi-Zyrian ыбӧс (ybös, door) may also be related in some fashion, although no Uralic root can be set up.
