editAccording to Ringe (2017: 97) “PIE *h₁su-Hiǵnós ‘good to venerate’ (cf. Skt su-, Homeric Gk ἐϋ- /eu-/ ‘good, well’; Skt yajñás ‘sacrifice’, Gk ἁγνός ‘pure’ with full-grade *Hyaǵ-) > *suignós > PGmc *swiknaz ‘pure’ (cf. Goth. swikns).”
