Proto-Italic edit

Etymology edit

From earlier *xaizējō (to differentiate it from a later form *haizēō if the shift */x/ > */h/ in the Italic languages already happened during late Proto-Italic), from Proto-Indo-European *gʰays-éh₁-ye-ti, from *gʰays- (to adhere, follow). Cognate with Latvian gaist.
