Etymology edit
From Proto-Indo-European *puH-yós, from *pewH-. If South Picene puíh (AP 2 Castignano) belongs here, then the pius-rule would not be of Proto-Italic date (cf. Raoul Zamponi South Picene (Routledge World Languages) 2021, p.21). This would kill the pius-rule as an Italo-Celtic isogloss. The Proto-Italic form would then still be *puHijos.
