Proto-Ryukyuan edit

Etymology edit

From Proto-Japonic *ikari (anchor).

Noun edit

*ikari

  1. anchor

Reconstruction notes edit

The Yonaguni term for "anchor" is アンカ (anka), from Japanese アンカー (ankā) and ultimately from English anchor, also appearing in Ishigaki Yaeyama アンカー (ankā). Miyako lost its reflex of *ikari for some reason.
