OE neowol

edit

There are a few variants of this: neowol, nifol, nihol, neól, niwol, all meaning "prone, prostrate; deep, low-lying, profound", which seem to always be listed as related to or the same as nifol (dark, gloomy). I'm not really sure why though, as while they seem semantically close, they have clear different meanings. They look like two different words to me, unless I'm missing something.

It seems like the former words should be related to PIE *ni (down) somehow. Anglom (talk) 23:22, 24 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
