Ross +‎ -shire

Proper noun

(historical) A former county in the Scottish Highlands, including most of Ross as well as Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. Dingwall is the traditional county town. Merged with Cromartyshire in 1890 as Ross and Cromarty.
