Staverden
Dutch
editEtymology
editFirst attested as apud staveren in 1290. Likely derived from the plural of a term cognate to Old Saxon stavor (“pole, stick”) and Old English stæfer (“pole, rod”). A derivation from a compound composed of stave (“wand, wooden pole”) and heri (“sandy ridge”) is less likely. Compare Stavoren and Stavern.
