From Bengali সিলেটি (śileṭi), from Arabic سِلْهَتِيّ (silhatiyy) used by Perso-Arab traders and Mughals, from native Sylheti ꠍꠤꠟꠐꠤ (síloṭi), from Old Sylheti ꠍꠤꠞꠐꠤ (síroṭi).
