About the PIE origin

edit

on this page it says that գիր (gir) is from PIE *wer- and simultaneously it says that գիր (gir) is a cognate of write. There are two problems with this, first none of the meanings of PIE *wer-, as mentioned on its page, are coherent with the meaning of “to cut, scratch, tear, sketch an outline” instead the outlined meanings are: 1. to burn 2. To watch, keep guard 3. Squirrel/marten. Secondly, the PIE origin of 'write' seems to be *wreyd- which means to scratch. What could be done with this? 93.126.209.109 09:20, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

There are no problems. The root *wer- we are talking about here has not been created yet. As explained as Proto-Germanic *wrītaną, the Germanic is from the d-extension. Vahag (talk) 20:25, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
