editAccording to Nişanyan, the Arabic word is borrowed brom Aramaic בחרנא (bəḥrānā, “test, turning point of disease progression, crisis”) which should be derived from בְּחַר (bəḥar, “judging, testing”) which is a semantic calque of Ancient Greek κρίσις (krísis).
