Moroccan origin of French chénef

@Fenakhay: I left you the Moroccan entries of which there is a form II “to bruck into wedges” from a شَنُّوف (šannūf), I imagine that this could have gotten the meaning of splitting hairs. But شَنَّافَة (šannāfa) means “lip”, so thence could come a meaning of being gobsmacked and a meaning of complaining (in thirty quotes, not having analyzed them completely though, French chénef could stand for either, I don’t know whether you speak this slang …).
