@AryamanA I saw that etymology in gujaratilexicon, but that seems really unlikely. ष्ट becoming થ just doesn't make so much sense to me. What do you think? DerekWinters (talk) 01:43, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

@DerekWinters: The Prakrit would be oṭṭha(ṃ?)bha, and it's possible the retroflex was made dental and the bh > h was assimilated, but now that I look at it, it's a probably too far. —Aryaman^{A (मुझसे बात करें • योगदान)} 01:50, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
