Short/long pronunciation edit
เจ้า is pronounced as written, with a short vowel sound, according to So Sethaputra New Model Thai-English Dictionary (2542 BE/AD 1999) UNLESS otherwise indicated. The same spelling but pronounced จ้าว with a long vowel sound is indicated for these:
- royalty, king, lord, prince, potentate, ruler
- supreme in a particular field, a king, a tycoon, such as เจ้าแห่งขอทาน king of beggars, เจ้าแห่งสิงห์สาราสัตว์ king of beasts, เจ้าแห่งภาพยนตร์ movie tycoon
- either pronunciation for a god or goddess
These are followed by entries for perhaps a hundred compound titles and expressions, many of which would fit in the categories above, but are NOT "otherwise indicated." I have not found the alternate pronunciation in any other reference, so I will leave these comments here until otherwise indicated. --Pawyilee 08:15, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
