According to Soviet Armenian Encyclopedia, the name means "humid place" in Georgian. But sounds like folk etymology. --Vahag (talk) 13:43, 7 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Yep, it is. It doesn't mean anything in Georgian, it's just a toponym. Perhaps it might mean something like that in a weird dialect like Tushetian, since the river originates somewhere over there. --Simboyd (talk) 20:14, 19 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
You can use {{R:ka:Bedoshvili}} now. --Vahag (talk) 20:38, 19 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Note for future generations

edit

I find alazan, ʿalazan, ʿalzan, ʿalzen meaning ‘lake’ in several North-East Caucasian languages. See Климов Г. А., Халилов М. Ш., Словарь кавказских языков. Сопоставление основной лексики, 2003, page 203. Needs more research. --Vahag (talk) 20:35, 19 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Nice work. --Simboyd (talk) 20:41, 19 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
