What is the etymology of this toponym? Wikipedia states: "The name Taiwan derives from Tayoan, meaning 'I' in one of the Formosan languages." 24.93.190.134 08:26, 3 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

See the etymology section of Taiwan. Other websites explain that the Siraya word Tayan originally meant "outsider" or "bad person."[1] Unfortunately, I don't think we currently have any Wiktionary contributors who are experts in the aboriginal languages of Taiwan. -- A-cai 10:58, 3 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
