A little bit of info on Comorian and its historical orthographies, from Harriet Ottenheimer's Anthropology of Language:

  • Roe (1615) "wrote moschees for /mše/ ‘female’".
  • "Nearly two centuries later, in 1821–22, the Rev. William Elliot [] wrote moo-sha for /mše/ ‘female’".
  • "In 1893, Ormières [] transcribed words like /mše/ ‘female’ as mouche."
  • "Angot published a Shinzwani grammar (1946, 1948) [... in which] /mše/ ‘female’ was written mche and /njema/ ‘good’ was written ngema.
