Etymon

Assuming 𐍄𐍂𐌹𐌿 (triu) is the correct etymon, Latin Thervingī is clearly metathesized. Schöfeld supposes this happened already in Gothic and lists *𐍄𐌰𐌹𐍂𐍅𐌹𐌲𐌲𐍉𐍃 (taírwiggōs). For what it's worth, he also mentions such permuted forms as Virtingi, Teriungi, Terviginti, and Terungi, so there's no guarantee that T(h)ervingi is correct either. If more weight is therefore given to the supposed "𐍄𐍂𐌹𐌿" root and the metathesis is instead assumed to be post-Gothic (an assumption that cannot be proven), the etymon would presumably be *𐍄𐍂𐌹𐍅𐌹𐌲𐌲𐍉𐍃 (triwiggōs) (cf. 𐍄𐍂𐌹𐌿~𐍄𐍂𐌹𐍅𐌹𐍃 (triu~triwis) +‎ -𐌴𐌹𐌽𐍃 (-eins) > 𐍄𐍂𐌹𐍅𐌴𐌹𐌽𐍃 (triweins)).
