Old Polish "bania" - (wooden) bath tub

Obsolescent "bania", meaning "wooden bathtub" - usually large and rotund - derived from Vulgar Latin 'banea'. By association with its round shape, other round objects have been called "bania" (sl. head, and by extension - intoxication, high) or with diminutive "bańka" (soap bubble - along with native "bąbel(ek)”, and dial. bauble). Dial. "baniak" means a large cooking pot (in Lesser Poland and Ukraine) also by association with the shape of the obsolete round bathtub. Ralphhalgas (talk) 02:07, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
