'Counterpane' is not from 'counterpoint' in its musical sense, but in its primitive sense of thoroughly stitching a quilt. The 'counterpoint' which is etymologically relevant here is from culcita and pungo. See here. Can we tidy up all of this? 2601:344:4000:3D49:558D:5219:B4DA:2486 21:23, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
