- It's just the transitivity which is different, but it can be important enough to split the definitions. But we have tags like

Programming edit
The term expand is used in programming. On a tutorial for PHP:
Unlike the double-quoted and heredoc syntaxes, variables and escape sequences for special characters will not be expanded when they occur in single quoted strings.
I really wish there was an explanation about this on this page... can anyone help?
